Spero 2023 - Sunday July 2

The Spero Chamber Chorale returns with two live performances for the 2023 season! Springfield’s very own professional choir, the Spero Chamber Chorale, will present their summer concerts this year on July 1st at 7:00pm at Christ the King Catholic Church and July 2nd at 2:00pm at First Presbyterian Church. Named after the Latin word for “hope,” the choir is a collection of area music teachers, performers, and professionals who get together each summer to share choral music with each other and the community. The choir's summer performances have become a favorite for local music-lovers. The Chorale’s founder and conductor, Dr. Abby Musgrove, is excited to get the singers together again. “This year’s concert is themed around the idea of ‘home,’ and that’s definitely not just the buildings we live in,” says Dr. Musgrove. “The music explores the idea of belonging, whether it’s with family, friends, or even a heavenly home. And when we are all together singing, it truly feels like home!” Concert selections will include well-known choral favorites such as Deep River and Homeward Bound, as well as beloved classics like How Lovely Is Thy Dwelling Place from Brahms’s Requiem, and Anton Brucker’s lush motet, Locus Iste. Listeners will also be treated to a few solo performances by the choir’s members, and the program will include several lighter and contemporary offerings to get toes tapping. Additionally, the choir plans to celebrate the Independence weekend with a performance of Randall Stroope's Homeland which combines a patriotic poem with the soaring melody of “Jupiter” from Holst’s The Planets.
