Our inaugural concert is concurrent with the Dominican Sisters’ celebration Sacred Time, Sacred Space, commemorating the 50th anniversary of the dedication of the historic Sacred Heart Convent Chapel. Since 1873 the Dominican Sisters have educated and accompanied the people of God in central Illinois and around the world. The congregation moved to Springfield from Jacksonville in 1893. Plans for the current motherhouse chapel began in 1962. The Dominican Sisters have sung God’s praise in the majestic space since 1968 and this year they celebrate that milestone with an open house on October 7, 2018.
